Dumb Decisions We All Make

We all like to think we’re smart, right?

But let’s face it—everyone has moments where they make dumb decisions.

Not “oops-I-forgot-my-keys” dumb.

I’m talking about those facepalm-worthy choices that make you wonder, “What was I thinking?”

Here’s a breakdown of the most common dumb decisions we all make—and why they happen👇👇

1. Saying “Yes” When You Mean “No”

How often have you agreed to something you didn’t want to do?

Maybe a friend asked for help moving (again), or your boss asked for “just one more favor.”

You hated every second but couldn’t say no.

Why?

Because saying no feels selfish.

But here’s the irony: saying yes when you don’t mean it leads to resentment. You end up frustrated, and the person asking doesn’t get your best effort.

Next time, try saying, “I’d love to help, but I can’t right now.” Trust me, it works.

2. Ignoring Red Flags

Red flags aren’t just for dating. They show up in jobs, friendships, and even your diet. You notice something’s off, but you ignore it. “Maybe it’ll get better,” you tell yourself. Spoiler: it rarely does.

Ignoring red flags leads to regret.

That toxic friend? They’ll drain you.

That shady deal? It’ll burn you.

Start trusting your gut—it’s smarter than you think.

3. Procrastinating “Just a Little Longer”

We all tell ourselves, “I’ll do it tomorrow.”

Then tomorrow comes, and we push it to next week.

Before you know it, deadlines loom, stress piles up, and you’re scrambling to fix it all at once.

Procrastination feels good in the moment.

But the long-term cost? Exhaustion, anxiety, and subpar results.

The fix? Start small. Set a timer for 10 minutes and chip away at the task.

Momentum is magic💪

4. Comparing Yourself to Others

You scroll through Instagram and see someone with a perfect life.

Their job is cooler. Their house is bigger. Their dog is cuter. You start feeling like you’re behind.

Here’s the truth: social media is a highlight reel.

No one posts their failures or bad hair days. Comparing yourself to others steals your joy. Focus on your path.

Celebrate your progress. Life isn’t a race.

5. Spending Money You Don’t Have

We’ve all bought something we didn’t need. Maybe it was a sale too good to resist or a fancy gadget you used twice.

Then reality hits when the credit card bill arrives.

Living beyond your means feels great at first.

But the stress of debt? Not so much.

Start asking yourself, “Do I need this, or do I just want it?” A little mindfulness can save a lot of cash.

6. Staying in Bad Situations

Whether it’s a job, a relationship, or a lease, we often stay longer than we should.

Why? Because change is scary.

But staying in a bad situation out of fear only makes it worse.

You deserve better. If something isn’t working, it’s okay to move on. Leaving isn’t failing—it’s making space for something better.

7. Not Taking Care of Your Health

Skipping workouts. Eating junk. Ignoring that weird pain in your back. We’ve all done it. But neglecting your health catches up with you. Sooner or later, you pay the price.

Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Drink water. Go for a walk. Get enough sleep. Your future self will thank you.

8. Overthinking Everything

Overthinking turns small problems into big ones. You analyze every word in a text or replay a conversation in your head.

You convince yourself of the worst-case scenario, even when it’s unlikely.

The truth?

Most of what you worry about never happens. Stop spiraling. Take a deep breath.

Focus on what you can control. Let the rest go.

9. Trusting the Wrong People

You believe the smooth talker or fall for empty promises. It happens to the best of us. But trusting the wrong people often leaves you hurt or betrayed.

Instead of rushing to trust, pay attention to actions.

Words are cheap.

Consistency matters.

Protect your peace by being selective with your trust.

10. Chasing Perfection

Perfection is an illusion. But we chase it anyway.

We want the perfect job, perfect partner, and perfect life.

And when we fall short, we feel like failures.

Stop aiming for perfection. Aim for progress. Done is better than perfect.

And guess what? Imperfections make life interesting.

11. Taking Advice You Don’t Believe In

How many times have you ignored your gut and followed bad advice?

Maybe it was a career move or dating tip.

It sounded good at the time, but it backfired.

Here’s a tip: trust yourself. Listen to advice, but filter it through your values and instincts. No one knows your life better than you.

12. Forgetting Gratitude

It’s easy to focus on what’s wrong and overlook what’s right.

But gratitude changes everything. It shifts your mindset and reminds you of life’s beauty.

Take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for. It doesn’t have to be big—sometimes, it’s just the morning coffee or a good laugh with a friend.

13. Expecting Instant Results

You want quick fixes—a dream body, instant success, or overnight happiness.

When it doesn’t happen, you feel disappointed.

Good things take time. Patience isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

Trust the process. Celebrate small wins along the way.

14. Neglecting Your Passions

You get so caught up in work or responsibilities that you forget to do what you love.

Life feels dull without passion.

Carve out time for hobbies or creative pursuits. They fuel your soul and remind you why life is worth living.

15. Taking Life Too Seriously

Life is too short to be serious all the time. We stress over minor inconveniences and forget to laugh at ourselves

😍Learn to let go.

😍Laugh at your mistakes.

😍Find joy in the little things.

Life is better when you don’t take it so seriously.

Final Thoughts

Dumb decisions are part of being human.

The key is to learn from them, laugh at them, and move on.

So next time you catch yourself making a facepalm-worthy choice, remember—you’re not alone.

We’ve all been there👋

The Truth is, You Don’t Need Closure

Cut ties and move on without glancing back… Image via Unsplash What did I do? What did I say? What could I have done differently? Is there someone else? Can we still be friends? Can we fix this? We torture ourselves with questions when a relationship ends. We want to know the answers. We want to know why. We want to make sense of what we don’t understand. Yes, closure can help. It can bridge the gap between confusion and heartbreak. It guides us to accept the loss and find the strength to look ahead. With closure, we realize there is no turning back. There are no what-ifs. No second chance. The other person has made up their mind for the reason of x, y, and z. As much as it hurts, closure can help us turn the page and start a new chapter. But what happens if you don’t get closure? What do you do when your ex won’t communicate or has abruptly ended all contact with you? Just one day, poof — they're gone. Or your relationship ended on bad terms. You saw it coming. You knew the brea...
