Every time I scroll through social media, I see all my friends and acquaintances posting about their amazing vacations, new promotions, new cars, and picture-perfect families.

And I can't help but wonder, "Why does it seem like everyone is doing better than me?"

This feeling of inadequacy and comparison is all too common in today's society.

We are bombarded with images and messages that suggest success, happiness, and fulfillment are easily attainable.

However, when we look at our lives, we may feel like we are falling short.

But what we see on social media is often a highlight reel of people's lives. A different reality often remains hidden behind those carefully curated posts and filtered snapshots.

So, if you've ever felt inadequate while scrolling through your feed, you're not alone. This article will explore five reasons why everyone seems to be doing better than you.

Let’s dive in!

It's halfway through 2023: A series of things have happened in my life

Stop seeing men who aren’t making their intentions clear

1. They are Investing in Flossets, and you are Investing in Assets

As much as you’re trying to grow your finances diligently, your money is tied up in intelligent investments in silent assets like treasury bonds, stocks, land, and unit trusts.

These investments hold great value but don't exactly scream your financial worth to the world.

Meanwhile, your friends are taking a different approach.

They're investing in the latest watches and fashion and jet-setting off to luxurious vacations. Flossets have a way of shouting, "Look at me, I'm successful!".

While your investments in assets quietly appreciate over time, flossets offer instant gratification and a sense of visible wealth.

They're like fireworks in the night sky, captivating and dazzling but often short-lived. It's as if those who invest in flossets have mastered the art of putting on a show for the world to see.

However flossets may give the illusion of wealth, but they don't necessarily translate into long-term financial security.

They can be fleeting and superficial, lacking assets' solid foundation and lasting value. It's like comparing a fireworks display to the sturdy foundation of a well-built house. That’s why those who invest in flossets look like they’re doing better than you.

But remember, the accurate measure of success lies beyond the glitz and glamour. It's about achieving financial stability, growing wealth over time, and finding fulfillment in the journey.

So, don't let the allure of flossers overshadow the quiet strength of your asset investments. Stay true to your financial path, and success will follow.

2. Their Phone Has a Better Camera Than Yours

Social media can make small things look important and less essential things look essential.

It's no secret that the images we see on our screens have the potential to evoke feelings of awe, envy, and sometimes even inadequacy.

But don't let the sheer number of comments posted beneath heavily filtered photos scare you. It's time to put things into perspective.

You may be more successful than your online friends. It's just that they own a phone with a better camera than yours.

When they capture more stimulating photos and caption them with carefully chosen words, they may appear like they're living their best lives and achieving more success than you.

But success cannot be accurately measured by the quality of photos on social media. It's not about the number of likes, comments, or followers.

It's about the tangible achievements, the progress you've made, and the impact you've had in your own life and the lives of others.

3. You're Stuck in an Unrewarding Career

Perhaps the reason why it seems like everyone else is doing better than you is more than just an illusion. It could be a reality rooted in your current situation.

If you find yourself stuck in a lousy job with a mediocre salary or need more opportunities for growth in your industry, it's time to take a step back and reevaluate your options.

Many times a significant portion of our waking hours is spent at work. It's where we invest our time, energy, and skills. So, feeling unfulfilled, underappreciated, or stagnant in your career can profoundly impact all well-being and perception of success.

Recognizing that success is not solely defined by external markers such as salary or job titles is essential. However, if you're genuinely unhappy and feel like you're not reaching your full potential, it's worth exploring whether a change is necessary.

Take a moment to reflect on your current career path.

  • Are you in an industry that aligns with your passions and interests?

  • Does your work provide room for growth and advancement?

  • Are there opportunities for learning and development?

If the answers to these questions are unsatisfactory, consider alternative paths.

Reevaluating your options doesn't mean making impulsive decisions or throwing caution to the wind. It means taking a deliberate and thoughtful approach to identify areas where you can thrive and find greater fulfillment.

This could involve exploring new industries, acquiring new skills, seeking mentorship, or even considering entrepreneurship.

Remember, the path to a rewarding career may only sometimes be linear. It may involve setbacks, risks, and periods of uncertainty.

However, investing in your professional growth can lead to a more fulfilling and successful journey in the long run.

4. You Have Different Personal Circumstances

It's important to remember that everyone's circumstances are unique, and comparing ourselves to others is often unproductive.

Maybe your friend got a promotion, but they don't have kids to care for or elderly parents to support as you do. Or someone you know just bought a new car, but they don't have student loan debt like you do.

Our circumstances play a significant role in our life paths and achievements. It's unfair to compare ourselves to others who may have different advantages or disadvantages than us.

Instead, we should focus on our journey and celebrate our accomplishments, no matter how small they seem compared to others. Remember, success is subjective and personal; what matters most is that we're happy and fulfilled.

5. You Have Different Paths and Goals

One of the fundamental truths of life is that each person's journey is unique. We all have different paths and goals that we are striving to achieve.

So, when it feels like everyone else is doing better than you, it could be because you have chosen a different path and have different aspirations.

Our dreams, ambitions, and definitions of success vary significantly from person to person.

While some may prioritize climbing the corporate ladder, others may value creative pursuits or work-life balance. Recognizing that no one-size-fits-all approach to success and happiness exists is essential.

When you compare others, it's crucial to take a step back and reflect on your goals and values yourself:

  • What do I genuinely want to achieve?

  • What brings me joy and fulfillment?

  • Am I on the right path for myself?

Remember, success is not a linear trajectory. It's a deeply personal and subjective concept. Your definition of success may involve positively impacting others, finding inner peace, or pursuing a passion that brings you immense joy. It may not align with society's conventional markers of success, and that's perfectly fine.

Conclusion

The feeling that everyone else is doing better than you can be a challenging mindset to overcome.

However, it's essential to remember that appearances can be deceiving, and external indicators don’t always accurately reflect success.

Success goes beyond material possessions, job titles, or social media validation. It encompasses personal growth, meaningful relationships, emotional well-being, and a sense of purpose. It's about aligning our actions with our values and striving for a life that feels fulfilling on a deeper level.

While it's natural to compare ourselves to others, shifting our focus inward and cultivating self-compassion is essential.

Rather than dwelling on perceived shortcomings, let's celebrate our achievements, big or small. Let's recognize the progress we've made and the unique journey we're on.

Do you ever feel like your friends are doing better than you? If yes, please share your experiences in the comments.

I Endured an Emotionally Abusive Relationship Because of Low Self Esteem

The Truth is, You Don’t Need Closure

Cut ties and move on without glancing back… Image via Unsplash What did I do? What did I say? What could I have done differently? Is there someone else? Can we still be friends? Can we fix this? We torture ourselves with questions when a relationship ends. We want to know the answers. We want to know why. We want to make sense of what we don’t understand. Yes, closure can help. It can bridge the gap between confusion and heartbreak. It guides us to accept the loss and find the strength to look ahead. With closure, we realize there is no turning back. There are no what-ifs. No second chance. The other person has made up their mind for the reason of x, y, and z. As much as it hurts, closure can help us turn the page and start a new chapter. But what happens if you don’t get closure? What do you do when your ex won’t communicate or has abruptly ended all contact with you? Just one day, poof — they're gone.
